WAMSO Volunteer Opportunities...

Interested in volunteering for the Minnesota Orchestra and WAMSO? Simply call 612-371-5654 or email wamso@mnorch.org. You may specify interest in a particular volunteer task, or let the Orchestra staff and volunteer leadership find the perfect place for you and your talents. We ask for a time commitment only as large as you wish to make; however, we do ask that we be able to depend on you for that commitment.

You may also indicate your interest in joining WAMSO, the Minnesota Orchestra volunteer organization. We'd be happy to send you more information.

You can make a difference! Volunteer support is crucial to the success of the Minnesota Orchestra and WAMSO music education programs.

Current Minnesota Orchestra and WAMSO Volunteer Opportunities
Here are some volunteer opportunities available as of March 1, 2004:

Music Education
Many opportunities exist to help with WAMSO music education programs. Volunteers are needed to do marketing, graphic design, mailings, and coordination as well as to work directly with the children in WAMSO's programs. Contact the WAMSO office at 612-371-5654, WAMSO@mnorch.org to get involved.

Adventures in Music (AIM) Previews - Volunteers conduct pre-concert programs for school-aged children and their families prior to the Minnesota Orchestra's Adventures in Music for Families concerts on four Sunday afternoons during the season.

Instrument Petting Zoo - Trained volunteers introduce children and adults to musical instruments through hands-on experimentation. This program is presented throughout the Twin Cities community.

Kinder Konzerts - Trained volunteers introduce children, ages four and five, to orchestral music through tours, hands-on use of instruments and a concert designed just for children and performed by Minnesota Orchestra musicians.

Listening Houses - Special guest speakers join WAMSO members for dinner and conversation at five Listening Houses throughout the year. Help organize the programs and meet our special guests up close and personal.

Meet the Masters - Volunteers coordinate master classes by world-renowned guest artists on the Orchestra Hall stage. This program offers a wonderful opportunity to observe an artist and teacher interacting with advanced music students in an informal setting.

Young Artist Competition - WAMSO volunteers organize this annual competition for musicians under the age of 26. The Young Artist Competition provides monetary awards as well as the opportunity to play with the Minnesota Orchestra and draws musicians from across the country. The 2005 finals are scheduled for January 16 at Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis.

Orchestra Hall Volunteers & Office Support
The Orchestra needs volunteers at concerts throughout the year. Volunteers receive a free ticket for that day's concert. Feel free to sign up with a spouse or friend. These volunteer opportunities fill up quickly, so sign up today!

Volunteer Ushers
Usher at evening classical concerts throughout the season and during Sommerfest at Orchestra Hall and enjoy the concerts for free. Training is required. Call for a job description and training times.

Office Support
WAMSO and the Orchestra need help preparing mailings, entering data, etc. Please call 612-371-5654 to put your name on the list to be called.

Special Events and Fundraisers
WAMSO committees are forming now to plan these special events:

  • American Craft Council Opening Night Benefit (April 15, 2004, RiverCentre)
